To prevent killing or bricking a Verizon V3m when upgrading to and away from (even if upgrading to 01.19.09 and other future releases) follow these instructions below:
First, be aware that the SPECIAL MONSTER is a one time flash. Failing to acknowledge and adhere to this will cause you much grief and expense in the way of damaged phones' firmware. Take a Verizon V3m with a firmware previous to 1.19.07 and flash with the SPECIAL MONSTER pack. Once the update has been successful and the phone reboots and is ready, flash it once again with the 01.19.07 MONSTER pack. The reason for this is that the "MONSTER" is a multiflash firmware meaning it can be flashed away from with a future update. Do NOT bypass the "SPECIAL MONSTER" pack assuming there is no need for the one time flash, as this would be incorrect and cause you much trouble! The SPECIAL MONSTER is needed to proper upgrade to the new 01.19.07 firmware. The 01.19.07 "MONSTER" is then needed to allow normal functioning in regards to flashing later or in the future. My assumption as to Motorola's reason for this is as follows (remember I am summarizing their reasons):
The "SPECIAL MONSTER" was released to the public through several channels even I believe MSU. Motorola is not in the habit of ever officially releasing a monster to anyone other than authorized service centers and personnel. There was apparently a need to have a monster out in the general distribution to successfully complete reaching firmware version 01.19.07, however, limiting the normal (non-special version in this case) monster pack to level 3 and above personnel kept their control procedures securely in place.
At present (05-05-2008) I am unaware of the CUSTOMER UPGRADE's role in the over picture or its proper application at this time. I will update this document with the info as soon as I am able to find out. |
