RADIO ON THE NOKIA 6600
--------------------------
Unlike the Nokia 7210 or some other mobile phones, the Nokia 6600 is not equipped with an FM tuner, which means it cannot receive standard radio stations by tuning in on a frequency between 87-105MHz.
The only possibility to shake it on a 6600 consists in Wireless Streaming Radio vía GPRS. You will consequently have to add that feature to your monthly service contract and configure your phone accordingly. Most mobile telecommunication companies provide the respective information on their website, as downloadable PDF files or send the complete configuration to your phone in form of an SMS message. Your provider's website will tell you more.
Second, in order to receive GPRS radio transmissions via the Internet, software like Radioke 2004 2.0 or Avec Radio 2.0 is necessary. The software is developed by the small Danish company Sandager but most of the time you will see the publisher Free Gravity Oy. An alternative download is OVSC. The trial version of Avec Radioke 2.0 can be found at Handango. The trial version of Avec Radio 2.0 is available from PDAssi. Well, since you «need» radio on your phone so badly, what are a few bucks to buy the programs right away?
Unfortunately, I cannot tell whether the other links lead to the latest versions or whether the registration hurdles have been removed, because too many people who place files on the Internet are too dumb or too lazy to include the info either in a readme.txt or on the website. In case the files are still trial or outdated versions, I wish you good luck for the hunt on the real thing.
On the other hand, a quick reality check would reveal that even the cheapest radio walkman for 50 bucks is more practical to handle, with better reception, better sound and less battery consumption than a mobile phone. What is more, radio stations don't charge their listeners for air time or the transferred amount of information. Anybody who "really needs" radio will be better off with this conventional alternative. Less flashy, but far more advantageous in every other aspect. _________________ Don't argue with an idiot, he will bring you down to his level and beat you up with his own experience... |
